Dr. Mike Brown
1. Tell us about your education. I went to lWCC in Clarinda, IA, for 2 years after high school. I completed my B.A. in Biology at The University of Iowa in 1994. I then assisted in research at the Bone Healing Lab at The University of Iowa for 2 years prior to entering the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. I graduated from Iowa State in 2001 with an emphasis on small animal surgery. 2. What are your hobbies? I enjoy almost anything outdoors: hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and skiing. One of the reasons I love the Midwest is the abundance of outdoor activities available in all seasons. 3. Tell us about your family. I have a beautiful little girl who amazes me every day! My parents live in Blair, NE and enjoy spoiling their 3 grandchildren. I have a younger sister who also lives in Blair; she is married and has 2 entertaining boys. I also have a younger brother who is an actor in Studio City, CA, and is also the National Spokesperson for the Huntington's Disease Society of America. 4. Do you have any pets? I have a very spoiled 7 year-old Vizsla named Griz. He likes riding in the front seat of the truck and snuggling on the couch. He dislikes thunderstorms, fireworks and gunshots. 5. Do yon have any heroes? I have many heroes. My TV hero is John Wayne for his no-nonsense way of dealing with problems. My political hero is Theodore Roosevelt for sticking to his values, his fearlessness, his spirit for hard work, hard play, and commitment to conservation. 6. What do you like most about veterinary medicine? I enjoy the fact-finding mission and detective work that sometimes is necessary to make an accurate diagnosis and treatment. I love that most of my clients consider their pets as members of the family; this allows me to do my job to the best of my ability. I also enjoy the personal relationships that develop between clients, veterinarians and staff members. 7. What is your favorite quote? "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
